Exercises such as meditation and yoga offer short-term management of stress. There are many therapies that can be adapted to deal with stress-related issues, but there aren’t that many therapies that are made with the sole purpose of addressing stress. The Basics of SRT?

 

We all have that strange, unsettling feeling: it’s as if someone has just turned a switch in your brain and you become apprehensive about everything. “Why is she looking at me that way?” , “Oh God I’m going to be late again due to heavy traffic! I cannot bear this!”, “God I’m so tired but I have a lot of work to do.” What do all these statements have in common? 

 

They are all interpretations of external events that increase your stress levels. These are things that happen on a daily basis and which you can hardly control. What you can control is your reaction to such stress-related events.

Usually people try to get rid of these thoughts by engaging in rationalisation, trying to find some logical explanations. But stress isn’t logical. Quite the contrary, it’s very irrational, and most importantly it’s very much related to your physiology, the way your body acts in reaction to stressors.

 

SRT, unlike many other therapies, brings stress back to its physiological realm, and solves the issue of stress by engaging both your body and your mind. Within SRT, we’re battling stress in its own ballpark, in the ballpark of physiology and body, we’re not bringing it to the cognitive realm where stress has a tendency to become stronger and more pernicious. This is why SRT can be referred to as somatic therapy (soma= the body).

 

This doesn’t mean that SRT ignores the cognitive aspect of stress. Quite the contrary, there is a lot of discussion within SRT about how stress makes you think in certain ways; but crucially, SRT first addresses the physiological aspect of stress and only then brings the cognitive aspect of stress into focus.

    

 

People who join this course often have some experience with attempting to control stress using things such as medication, yoga or meditation. After finding these techniques inefficient they are often seeking a more reliable and robust way to manage stress in the long term. SRT is that way.

Just relax Relax, chill out, simmer down – easier said than done!

If only we could relax at will, if only we could simply step out of stress and relax, if only we really knew what relaxation felt like. Many people associate relaxation with a hot bath, a sunny beach or tin of beer, but true relaxation goes beyond anything in the physical world and it’s a state that very few people have ever actually experienced, so when you’re told to relax you really have no baseline to refer to in order to feel what that relaxation really means.

 

Through SRT, we work with a variety of mechanisms in the body and mind to produce authentic deep relaxation that many people have never experienced before.  

 

By increasing a person’s stress levels through a number of different breathing and physical exercises, we excite the psyche to the point where it can’t be excited any further. The mind tires out completely and drops into deep relaxation. After that, anything apart from the basic needs don’t matter because there is an experience of deep and authentic contentment. The method may seem completely counterintuitive, but it works!

 

Through SRT, we silence the voice in the head that does so much incessant talking.

 

For many people there is a breakthrough after just a few sessions when they come to realise how much of what they do comes not from their basic needs, but from fear and a restless mind.

We developed SRT from the wealth of techniques and exercises used by people who HAVE to learn how to function under a lot of stress: special military units. People who aren’t acquainted with military affairs may not be aware of the extent to which the military was able to solve numerous problems which we face in everyday lives. Stress is one such thing. In fact, it was one of the most important issues that the military had to address.  

 

Over centuries, battles have been lost and won based on which army had more courage and less fear and stress. Modern militaries do not leave this to chance, and have developed a number of different ways to tackle stress and bring it back under your control. Having a lot of experience in this area, we decided to make the most effective combination of such exercises, mix it with empathetic, personalised guidance, and provide to people what they need the most: stress control.

A little more about the logistics

The course takes place over 10 sessions. These sessions run over 5 consecutive days with 2 sessions taking place each day.

We realise that this sounds like a big time commitment. It is. We see it more as a time investment. By investing your time in SRT you are investing in your future. What you learn from SRT does not stay in the training room or within the time of the course. SRT is about transformational lifelong change – worth the investment, don’t you think?

 

Alternatively, for clients who do not wish to commit to the week-long program, we offer 1.5-2 hour sessions. Clients may choose to upgrade to the weekly course if they so desire.

 

The cost

Our aim is to make SRT affordable for all. Our personal experience leads us to want everyone to live a life free from the shackles of stress. 

 

The course fee is – $3,900 and includes all sessions, course materials and access to world class instructors.
